The Youth Entrepreneurship Training

The İŞKUR Youth Entrepreneurship Training (Y.E.T.) course has been developed in collaboration with İŞKUR to give potential entrepreneurs the opportunity over a 30-day period to develop their business ideas and capacities to implement them.

At the end of the training that combines an ideal mix of classroom and field work, the participants will have gained new knowledge, practical skills and an awareness of what further skills would enhance their chances of success. They will also have a keen insight into their own strengths, weaknesses and an understanding or what motivates them. They will emerge from the course not only with a business plan, but also armed with knowledge about how to proceed and where they can turn to for support and funding.

In 2013, the training will be piloted in five provinces for 100 participants per province. At the end of the programme in each of the pilot provinces, the original business plans developed by the course participants will be evaluated by a Commission comprising representatives of relevant local authorities and business groups. The commission will select the top fifteen business plans (these might be developed by individuals or small groups) who will receive further support under the YES (Youth Entrepreneurship Support) Programme in the form of one-to-one guidance, coaching, preparation for an application for KOSGEB funding (based on an analysis of resources for seed financing) and business development assistance.

The training and tutoring will be provided by a team of international and national experts facilitators and İŞKUR job counsellors.

Throughout the YES Programme the young potential entrepreneurs will receive training, advice and guidance from business experts and prominent local business people and successful entrepreneurs. They will also meet representatives of the organisations that will be critical to the start-up and running of their business.

Their training will include simulated "pitches" to potential investors and customers, both in the classroom and in the field, exercises which will be vital to preparing them for the task of attracting financing, suppliers and clients.

In terms of helping participants develop an 'entrepreneurial mind-set', the course aims to help them:
  • Develop critical thinking skills that will enable them to identify and evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities, manage risks and learn from the results.
  • Understand the process that enables entrepreneurs with limited resources transform a simple idea into a sustainable success.
  • Understand and apply fundamental aspects of entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Establish goals, identify resources and determine the steps required to accomplish their goals.
  • Identify and interact with local entrepreneurs and business owners within their own communities.
It is estimated that 14 of the 30 days will be spent in the classroom; 9 days will be devoted to field work and research; and 7 days will be used for peer visits, individual study and report writing.

The anticipated time schedule for the five pilot courses is as follows:
  • RİZE           March 25 – May 5, 2013
  • SİVAS          April 8 – May 21, 2013
